Loading is a procedure, not a race. Work on level ground, keep people clear of the path and stop if the vehicle, ramps or trailer are not aligned correctly.
Inspect before loading
Check tires, coupler, safety chains, lights, breakaway equipment, deck, ramps and tie-down equipment before loading.
Align slowly
Center the vehicle with the trailer and use a spotter when appropriate. Low-clearance vehicles may need a different loading approach.
Manage weight distribution
Load placement affects tongue weight and stability. Follow the trailer’s instructions and never exceed ratings.
Secure the vehicle
Use properly rated straps or tie-downs at the approved points. Remove slack and confirm nothing can contact sharp edges or hot components.
Do a final walk-around
Check coupler lock, chains, electrical connection, breakaway cable, lights, tires, straps and cargo. Stop early in the trip and re-check securement.
